In recent years, here in the UK, we have seen a marked rise in right-wing politics.
The Reform Party seem to be rising in the polls; prediction suggest they are going to make significant gains at the local elections in May; and with only three years to go until a general election, the possibility of a Reform government at national level is moving towards a probability.
At the same time we have seen a right-ward swing from the Labour party, with a raft of tighter immigration controls, and stricter treatment of asylum seekers. A Reform government look likely to go even further on immigration, and to make significant cuts to welfare and public services for all of us.
As Christians we are called to listen to the signs of times, and respond.
We need to ask ourselves…….
Where has this right-ward shift come from? What is drivingit?
What does a Christ-centred critique of Reform, and Labour, look like?
What should we be doing now, both in response to Labour, and in preparation for a potential Reform government?
And What does Christian discipleship look like in the face of hardening attitudes to the most vulnerable in our midst?
